My traditional horary judgment is NO: I do not expect BTS to win Song of the Year at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards. Although BTS appear as serious contenders, the South Node lies only about 0°33′ from the Midheaven—the traditional angle of honor—and I judge that this unusually direct affliction ultimately points to the award being denied.

This is Horary Case File #003, a prospective prediction recorded before the September 27, 2026 VMAs result is known.

The question became serious and definite for me on September 17, 2026 at 10:54 AM PDT in Las Vegas, Nevada, and I cast the chart immediately.

Recorded prediction: NO — BTS will not win Song of the Year.

Confidence: Moderate.

This is not an easy NO. BTS's significator is angular in the 10th house, the Moon applies toward it with reception, and the opposing field is represented by a badly debilitated Saturn. But the most exact testimony concerning the honor itself is strongly negative: the South Node is approximately 0°33′ from the Midheaven.

After the VMAs, I will return to this same Case File, record the verified result, and add a technical postmortem. The original prediction, confidence level, house assignments and reasoning will remain preserved.

What Is Being Predicted?

BTS are nominated for Song of the Year at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards for “Swim.” MTV's official voting page lists BTS in the Song of the Year field and shows fan voting open ahead of the September 27 ceremony.

The nomination and voting details can be verified on MTV's official Song of the Year voting page.

For this Case File, I am deliberately excluding fan sentiment, social-media activity, popularity rankings, voting estimates, betting markets and outside forecasts from the astrological judgment.

The proposition is deliberately narrow:

Will BTS win Song of the Year at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards?

The scoring rule is fixed before the result:

• BTS wins Song of the Year = prediction INCORRECT.
• Any other nominee wins Song of the Year = prediction CORRECT.

Why I Use the 10:54 AM Chart

The question first entered my awareness at approximately 10:36 AM, when several possible horary questions occurred to me. At that stage, the BTS question was only one possibility among several.

I then listened to “Swim.” The question stayed with me, and at 10:54 AM it became a serious, definite inquiry that I consciously decided to pursue. I cast the chart at that moment.

That distinction matters in traditional horary. A passing idea is not necessarily the same thing as a fully formed question. I therefore use the moment the inquiry became serious rather than moving the chart backward simply because the subject had crossed my mind earlier.

This is particularly important here because the Moon perfected a trine with Saturn only minutes before the chart was cast. At 10:54, the Moon–Saturn trine is already separating by approximately 0°03′, not applying.

Ascendant: 19°09′ Scorpio
Midheaven: 27°52′ Leo

The seven traditional planets are:

• Sun: 24°51′ Virgo, 10th house
• Moon: 12°38′ Sagittarius, 1st house
• Mercury: 11°29′ Libra, 11th house
• Venus: 4°18′ Scorpio, 12th house
• Mars: 23°47′ Cancer, 9th house
• Jupiter: 17°06′ Leo, 9th house
• Saturn: 12°35′ Aries, retrograde, 5th house

The North Node is at approximately 28°25′ Aquarius, placing the South Node opposite it at approximately 28°25′ Leo.

I use traditional horary principles for the judgment: houses and their rulers, essential and accidental dignity, reception, planetary motion, application and separation, the Moon's sequence, derived houses, and relevant considerations before judgment. Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, Chiron, Lilith and the Vertex are not used to decide the outcome.

Is the Chart Fit for Judgment?

I consider the chart sufficiently fit to judge.

The Ascendant is neither extremely early nor late. The Moon is not void of course and is not in the Via Combusta. Saturn is not in the 7th house, and the principal significators are not combust or cazimi.

There is one traditional caution: the planetary hour is ruled by Mercury while Mars rules the Scorpio Ascendant. They do not satisfy the usual Lilly-style agreement by identity, triplicity or elemental nature.

I therefore do not describe the chart as flawlessly radical. But the planetary-hour mismatch is a consideration before judgment rather than an automatic prohibition, and the chart otherwise gives a coherent description of the matter.

Why BTS Are Represented by the 10th House

The most important methodological decision is the assignment of BTS.

I do not give BTS the Ascendant simply because they are named in the question.

Instead, I use an unusually close precedent from William Lilly's Christian Astrology. Lilly was asked whether Prince Rupert would gain honor. The querent was someone else, but because Rupert was an eminent public person Lilly assigned him to the 10th house and judged his honor from that house, its ruler and the luminaries.

Lilly's original judgment can be reviewed in “If Prince Rupert should gain honour by our wars?”.

The present question has a closely related structure: an observer is asking whether a prominent public group will gain a specific public honor.

I therefore assign:

BTS = 10th house / Sun.

Leo is on the Midheaven, so the Sun is BTS's primary significator.

BTS's Condition: Sun in the 10th

The Sun is at 24°51′ Virgo and is physically located in the 10th house.

That is meaningful accidental strength. Lilly specifically notes that the Sun or Jupiter placed in the 10th can strongly fortify that house.

The placement is also highly descriptive: BTS are already occupying a position of public recognition by being nominated for Song of the Year.

But the Sun's presence in the 10th does not automatically prove a win.

The Sun lacks essential dignity at this degree of Virgo and is therefore peregrine. BTS are strongly situated by house, but their significator does not possess corresponding essential strength.

The Decisive Negative Testimony: South Node Conjunct the Midheaven

The most important testimony in my final judgment is the South Node's position.

The Midheaven is:

27°52′ Leo.

The South Node is approximately:

28°25′ Leo.

That places the South Node only about 0°33′ from the Midheaven.

This is far more specific than a generic symbolism of difficulty or diminution. The South Node is almost exactly on the angle that traditionally signifies honor, preferment, dignity and public distinction.

Lilly is explicit in his description of the 10th house: while the Sun or Jupiter there can fortify it, Saturn or the South Node usually deny honor.

The relevant traditional passage can be read in Lilly's description of the twelve houses.

Because this question is literally asking whether BTS receives a public honor, I give this testimony exceptional weight.

The South Node is not itself a significator and does not technically prohibit an aspect. I therefore do not treat it as a mechanical veto. But as a very close affliction to the exact angle governing the subject of the question, it is the strongest testimony against BTS receiving the award.

Who Represents the Other Nominees?

Lilly's Prince Rupert example also provides a precedent for the opposition.

Rupert's opponent was represented by the 7th house from Rupert's 10th. Applying the same structure here, the house opposite BTS's radical 10th is the radical 4th house.

Aquarius is on the 4th cusp, so:

The opposing field = Saturn.

Saturn is at 12°35′ Aries, retrograde and in its fall.

This is a serious weakness and one of the strongest testimonies in BTS's favor. The opposing field is not represented by a strong or well-functioning planet.

I nevertheless use this comparatively rather than mechanically. Saturn represents an entire field of competing nominees rather than one individual opponent, so its weakness does not automatically guarantee that BTS receives the award.

The Moon Has Already Separated From Saturn

At the moment of the question, the Moon at 12°38′ Sagittarius has just separated from a trine to Saturn at 12°35′ Aries by approximately 0°03′.

Because the aspect is separating, I treat it as describing something already established in the matter rather than a future perfection showing the opposition moving toward victory.

I do not move the chart backward to make the aspect applying. The earlier 10:36 moment was when the topic first entered my awareness among several possible questions; 10:54 was when this particular question became serious and was actually judged.

The Strongest Testimony Favoring BTS: Moon Applying to the Sun

The Moon subsequently applies by square to the Sun before either body changes signs.

This is substantial positive testimony.

The Moon is in Sagittarius. Because this is a daytime chart, the Sun rules the fire triplicity and therefore receives the Moon by triplicity.

Reception improves an otherwise difficult square.

I read this as showing the matter continuing strongly toward BTS, but with resistance, competition or difficulty.

There is an important technical distinction, however.

Under the house model used in this Case File, the Sun represents BTS themselves. It does not separately represent the trophy.

I therefore do not interpret the aspect as the simple equation:

“Moon reaches the trophy, therefore BTS wins.”

That interpretation belongs to a different significator model.

Here the Moon–Sun application shows BTS remaining strongly engaged in the future development of the question. It is real affirmative testimony, but it does not automatically cancel the direct affliction to the angle of honor.

The Moon First Applies to Jupiter

Before reaching the Sun, the Moon applies by trine to Jupiter at 17°06′ Leo.

The Moon is in Sagittarius, Jupiter's domicile, so Jupiter strongly receives the Moon.

This is favorable secondary testimony preceding the Moon's application to BTS's Sun.

I do not attempt to identify Jupiter with a particular fan group, campaign, person or voting bloc. The chart securely shows a benefic and well-received contact; assigning a more specific real-world identity would be speculation.

Is the Moon–Sun Application Prevented?

I find no classical prohibition that prevents the Moon from eventually reaching the Sun.

The prior trine to Jupiter does not prohibit the later Moon–Sun square in the technical traditional sense. There is no refranation, and neither the Moon nor the Sun changes signs before perfection.

I also find no frustration or collection of light that cancels the application.

The Moon–Sun square therefore remains legitimate affirmative testimony.

How I Weigh the Contradictory Testimony

This chart is useful precisely because the testimony is genuinely divided.

The strongest indications favoring BTS are:

• The Sun/BTS is angular and physically located in the 10th house of public honor.
• The Moon applies to the Sun before either changes signs.
• The Sun receives the Moon by triplicity.
• The opposing Saturn is retrograde and in fall.
• The Moon first reaches Jupiter by trine, with strong reception.

The strongest indications against BTS are:

• The South Node is approximately 0°33′ from the Midheaven, directly afflicting the traditional angle of honor.
• Lilly specifically associates the South Node in the 10th with denial of honor.
• The Sun/BTS is peregrine in Virgo.
• The Moon reaches the Sun through a square rather than an easier aspect.
• The planetary-hour agreement is imperfect.

I do not resolve this by counting favorable and unfavorable testimonies.

The question is specifically whether BTS receives an honor. The most exact testimony concerning that honor is the South Node almost exactly conjunct the Midheaven.

The positive testimonies show BTS as prominent, competitive and strongly involved in the outcome. But the honor itself is directly afflicted in a way that Lilly specifically connects with its denial.

That distinction is what tips my final judgment toward NO.

An Alternative Contest-Horary Model Gives a Different Answer

There is a credible alternative house-assignment method, and I want it recorded before the result rather than introduced afterward.

Some contest-horary approaches place the named contestant on the 1st house, the opposition on the 7th, and the award on the 10th.

Under that model:

• BTS = Mars
• Other nominees = Venus
• Award = Sun

That model is more favorable to BTS. Venus, representing the competing field, is debilitated in Scorpio and cadent in the 12th; the separating Mars–Sun sextile can describe the existing nomination; and the Moon's later application to the Sun can be read as the BTS side reaching the award again.

I do not use that model as the official framework for this Case File.

The question is not primarily framed as “Will my side defeat their side?” It is an observer asking whether an eminent public group will gain a particular honor. For that reason, Lilly's Prince Rupert example is the closer classical analogue.

This methodological choice is being locked before the winner is known. If the prediction fails, I will not retroactively switch to the alternative model and claim that the chart was really a YES all along.

Why the 5th House Does Not Decide the Significators

Aries is on the 5th-house cusp, making Mars ruler of the traditional house associated with entertainment, artistic performance and music.

Under the alternative contest model, Mars would also represent BTS. That is an interesting descriptive correspondence.

But I treat it as confirmation of the chart's thematic coherence, not as proof that BTS must be Mars. House assignments should be established from the relationship described by the question rather than chosen because a secondary symbolism happens to fit.

What About the Fan Vote?

MTV's Song of the Year category is fan-voted, making the Moon's traditional association with the populace tempting to emphasize.

I use that symbolism cautiously.

The Moon already describes the flow and development of the horary. I do not count it repeatedly as the voting public, BTS's co-significator and the general sequence of events whenever each interpretation supports the same outcome.

Its actual applications are more reliable than multiplying symbolic roles.

Final Recorded Prediction

NO. I judge that BTS will not win Song of the Year at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards.

Confidence: Moderate.

The strongest testimony for NO is the South Node approximately 0°33′ from the Midheaven, directly afflicting the traditional angle of honor in a question specifically asking whether BTS receives an honor.

The strongest testimony against my judgment is substantial: BTS's Sun is angular in the 10th, the Moon applies to it with reception, and the opposing Saturn is severely debilitated.

My final synthesis is:

BTS appears as a serious and well-supported contender, but I expect the final honor itself to be denied.

Timing

I make no independent timing prediction from this chart.

The real-world resolution date is already known: the winner will be revealed at the September 27 VMAs. Converting the Moon's remaining degrees to the Sun into a specific number of days would require forcing the timing symbolism toward a date we already know.

Outcome — Pending

The result will be determined at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on September 27, 2026.

What Horary Case File #003 Is Testing

This Case File tests three specific methodological questions.

First, can Lilly's treatment of an eminent third party in a question about honor be applied coherently to a modern entertainment award?

Second, how much authority should a very close South Node conjunction to the Midheaven receive when strong affirmative testimony exists elsewhere in the chart?

Third, does the badly debilitated opposing significator outweigh—or fail to outweigh—a direct affliction to the angle of the desired outcome?

These choices are being documented before September 27 so the method can be judged against the outcome rather than reconstructed afterward.

Traditional Source Behind the House Assignment

The principal historical comparison is William Lilly's Christian Astrology judgment:

“If Prince Rupert should gain honour by our wars?”

In that case, Lilly retained the Ascendant for the querent, assigned the eminent Prince Rupert to the 10th house, used the house opposite Rupert for his opponent, and examined whether the luminaries supported Rupert's significator.

Lilly ultimately denied Rupert the promised honor despite finding favorable indications in the chart. His example is useful because it shows that traditional horary judgment depends on the relative authority and relevance of the testimonies, not simply on counting favorable and unfavorable symbols.
